Journal Entry 1,
Today I was asked if I thought King
Alexander was “great”. Yes I do believe he was great. Look at how much land he
conquered! For a man so young it was quite impressive and well, great. But what
exactly does it mean to be “great”? There are many meanings to the word
“great”. According to Merriam Webster it means “markedly superior in character
or quality”. The way he conquered so
much land for his age built up his character a lot. He gained so much respect
from his successes in Asia and the Middle East. The days I spent in the army
were filled with pride and joy. They were quite tough though. However we pushed
through and gained land. Once our days in the army we were glad to return to
our families.

Journal Entry 2,
I have
noticed that recently that the culture is starting to help King Alexander’s
empire. Cultures from India, Persia,
Greece, and Egypt started to come together and became the Hellenistic Culture.
Since there are so many new cultures, there is a new train of thought. Each
culture has an idea that helps improve Alexander’s empire.

Journal Entry 3,
There
have been many great people in world history. Mahatma Gandhi was a great example of one. He
led India to independence, but without violence. King Alexander was violent
with his conquests. Gandhi was not followed at first, he did not have any power
and was not wealthy. He was even arrested at one point. Yet, he still succeeded
in gaining independence. King Alexander was
a king of course so he was followed by many people. The government was not
against him because he was the government. Also notice how after King Alexander’s
death, his empire fell. India on the other hand still has independence. This shows
that being non-violence has a better outcome than violence.

ReplyDeleteOverall, this blog post is great! I like how you included the dictionaries definition of "great." I also found that for such a young age Alexander was a influential person in many different ways other than being a good general of an army.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't seem like you had that many facts and the websters dictionary part was kinda weird considering it's not really historically accurate. I liked your last paragraph about Ghandi a lot though. You explained your thoughts on the topic clearly.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you used Gandhi. It adds a diverse cultural perspective than if you had used Someone from U.S. history. You have a very creative mind and should write more often. Your post was very informational and really helped me understand how Alexander was great.
ReplyDeleteI like your last paragraph. Ghandi was a great choice and you worded it really well and I liked how you chose someone that took a totally different approach from Alexander. I do think your first and second entries could have had more info. The first one seemed kind of vague, but overal good job.
